Greg Ehly
Role
Independent insurance broker in Pennsylvania (writes PA, NJ, DE), age 40, selling insurance since 18. One of three equal partners in a three-broker agency with shared back-office billing/invoicing staff. Roughly 50/50 personal and commercial, with a heavy small-to-mid commercial book. Recruited through user-interviews for the 2026-08-17 broker discovery round and volunteered his email for further paid follow-up calls.
Affiliations
- Three-partner independent agency (name not given) — equal partner, ~15 direct carrier appointments.
- Previously a captive agent (carrier not named), where he carried a ~$50K/yr commercial premium commitment.
Notes
- Book composition: salons, carpenters/handymen, some manufacturing, restaurants, landscapers, and landlords with 100+ rental properties each — plus mixed-use buildings (storefront below, apartments above) and standard personal auto/home/renters/condo.
- Runs vertafore (QQ Catalyst) as AMS, levitate for marketing/CRM/website/SEO, Dropbox for storage, Dropbox Sign for e-signature.
- Reports no premium or policy-count minimums with any of his ~15 direct carriers — the sharpest counter-datapoint yet against the appointment-minimum framing. Obtaining the Nationwide appointment (~2021–22) required showing loss ratios and new-business volume, with no ongoing conditions after.
- Names service and billing — payments, invoicing, COIs, insurance cards, cancellation notices — as his dominant time sink, and selling as what he’d rather do. Estimates +15–20 customers/month with no extra headcount if that load were removed.
- Cannot see policies written by other brokers even at carriers he sells; collects prospects’ existing coverage by asking for a texted or emailed dec page. Sees 1–2 duplicate-coverage cases a year, always personal lines on autopay.
