Glean
Overview
Enterprise search / RAG company; founded ~2019. Treated in 2026-05-06-brain-os-strategy-brainstorm as the most directly comparable existing player to the Brain — and the most important competitor to study before any pitch.
Relationships
- Direct competitor of saar-arbel’s Brain on the context-retrieval axis.
- Differentiator (per the team’s framing): Glean stays a “search tool,” Brain is a continuously-maintained, structured wiki that compounds — see context-os-brain.
Notes
- Permissions claim worth verifying. Glean publicly claims to have solved per-user document permissions at query time via a dynamic graph of entities and dependencies. Saar’s intuition: this likely requires heavy async background processing because permissions change dynamically; computing AI answers over only-permitted documents at query time would otherwise take minutes. If Glean has actually solved this cleanly, it is a serious technical moat.
- TODO (action item from the meeting): the team needs to play with Glean’s product directly, not just read marketing — particularly the demos and the actual permissions behavior, not just the AI summary feature.
- Glean’s pitch challenge (per guy-barkat): they suffer the same problem the Brain will face — every competitor’s demo looks the same in the room; differentiation only shows up after deployment.

- 2026-05-06-brain-os-strategy-brainstorm — primary competitor benchmark; permissions architecture flagged as the key research question.
- 2026-05-01-entree-capital-enterprise-ai-spend-map — listed as a canonical exemplar of the $25B AI-native apps category (alongside cursor, Harvey, sierra); positioned in the “BU-level P&L” buyer segment.
