Zeiss
Overview
German optics + medical-devices manufacturer; the incumbent in ophthalmology imaging. In 2026-05-19-saar-leshno-glaucoma-data-tracking, Zeiss is the entity whose lock-in pattern the proposed wedge attacks: Zeiss makes the Humphrey perimeter (the standard visual-field test instrument), the OCT (optical coherence tomography) scanner, and the Forum software (~$100K) that integrates them. Forum only accepts in-clinic Zeiss-instrument data, by design.
Relationships
- sheba — installed Forum customer.
- Indirect competitor to any cross-vendor or PDF-ingest tracking product (e.g. the ari-leshno / yael pitch). Zeiss has no commercial incentive to add cross-vendor PDF import — it would dilute the instrument lock-in that drives sales.
Notes
- Forum’s price tag (~100/mo OCR-based alternative.
- Zeiss’s exports include DICOM and a proprietary “OPV” format; per ari-leshno, DICOM is theoretically interoperable but in practice not.
